Children unite for man battling brain cancer

PALMER RAPIDS – Four local girls might be small in stature but they sure have big hearts.

When Hope Jessup 9, Kate MacGregor, 8, Mya Stein 9, and Madison Marquardt, 9, first came together with the common goal of raising money for Bobby Neuman, a friend and relative fighting cancer, they had no idea just how much of an impact they would make.

The group of girls approached Jude Kelley, their principal at Palmer Rapids Public School and explained someone they knew had ongoing expenses due to travel for medical reasons and they wanted to have a school fundraiser to help him.

They showed Kelley some of the items they had been making out of duct tape that they hoped to sell, including purses, wallets, bookmarks, bracelets and pen grips. She was impressed with their products and immediately thought it was a fantastic idea.

“I loved that the children at such a young age had developed such a great sense of empathy and assistance towards a fellow community member,” Kelley said.
