Chicken dinner attracts locals and special guests

WILNO – The pouring rain didn’t deter the thousands of visitors to the annual chicken dinner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wilno. On September 2, people gathered under umbrellas and waited in lines stretching down the parking lot for the much-anticipated meal. Even before the doors opened at 1 p.m., a line of hundreds of people gathered outside the church. Volunteers working games provided entertainment for the eager crowd. The volunteers had been at the church for much longer. Margaret Brotton, who managed the pies, said she and many helpers were at the church bright and early, around 6:30 p.m. and were likely going to be at the church until well after 9 p.m. Pick up the September 5, 2018 issue of the Valley Gazette for the full story.
