Brudenell native saves life shortly after taking CPR course

OTTAWA A man raised in Brudenell is being credited for saving a life after just completing a CPR course in Ottawa.

Steven Belanger is the son of Marc and Frances Belanger. He and his two sisters Katie and Shannon grew up on 35 acres in Brudenell. They attended St. Andrews Catholic School and later graduated from Madawaska Valley District High School.

“It was incredible, sliding in the winters as kids, skiing, snowshoeing, it was fantastic,” Belanger said of his time in the Valley.

His mother still has the property in Brudenell so he visits as often as he can, enjoying the “spotty” cell phone service so he can disconnect once in a while.

“For me it’s still home, a bit of ‘take the boy out of the country’ syndrome, but I love being able to bring my kids up, go swimming at Gorman Lake and slow things down a bit from time to time,” he said. “We have been fortunate enough to have some great friends over the years and you never really forget that sense of community.”
