Atom Bears beat Muskrat 5-3

BARRY’S BAY – It was Saturday morning, January 18, at 10 a.m. and the Barry’s Bay Atom Bears were just stepping onto the ice at the Paul J. Yakabuski arena as they got ready for a game against Muskrat.

The Bears scored the game’s opening goal when Lyla Burgess hit Chace Dombroskie with a pass and he fired a wrist shot stick side. Ethan Roche also picked up an assist. Just after Peyton Plebon was stopped on a partial breakaway, Muskrat tied the game on a high wrist shot glove side. 1-1 after one.

The second period started out slow, but then things opened up and we had four goals scored in a span of just under two minutes. At 7:52, Ethan Alix skated in from center ice on a breakaway, deked the goalie and slid it in. Kaiden Schutt and Rylin Kuiack drew helpers on the goal. Twenty-four seconds later, Muskrat tied it up at two. Then at 9:42, they took their first lead of the day scoring on a breakaway. The Bears didn’t quit, and with only four seconds left in the period, got the equalizer as Amelia Dombroskie jumped on the rebound of a Liam Wagner shot, and fired it home. Ethan Alix picked up the second assist. It was  3-3 after two periods.
