Athletes heading to provincials in January

BARRY’S BAY – Three local athletes are heading to the Special Olympics provincials in January.

Rose Baxter, Devon McGrath and Patrick Parks will be heading to North Bay on January 29. They will be up against the best athletes across the province in the snowshoe competition.

Dave Archer, the coordinator of the Barry’s Bay Special Olympics group, said the athletes did well in the qualifying meet earlier this year, earning themselves the opportunity to compete.

The announcement was made at the December 18 end of year Christmas party. Many athletes gathered at the Ash Grove to celebrate another successful season.

Archer explained that fundraising from the annual Torch Run will help purchase special clothing and equipment for the three athletes heading to provincials. Money will also help with registration fees.
