The Wilno Recreation Committee receives $150,000 in funding for Wilno Rink

WILNO – The Wilno Recreation Committee has been approved to receive a large grant to help with some upgrades to the Wilno Rink. This grant funding is for $150,000 and was received via the Ontario Trillium Fund. The application process for this grant began back in the summer of 2017, explained Board of Directors committee member, Amanda Kutchkoskie. “Both Madawaska Valley and Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Townships fully supported our application process,” said Kutchkoskie. The committee were then notified of the approval of this grant in February of this year. Kutchkoskie said the volunteers were overjoyed when they heard about this news. Now in terms of what the money will be spent on, Kutchkoskie said it will be used for some upkeeps on the existing facility. “We currently do not have indoor washroom facilities, the building experiences flooding in the spring, and our amenities are not wheelchair accessible,” said Kutchkoskie. “The grant funding, in conjunction with past and present fundraising efforts, will be utilized to tear down the existing structure and construct a fully functional building equipped with a fully accessible bathroom that can better suit the needs of our community.” For more pick up a copy of the April 18, paper.
