MV studio tour highlights variety of artists

BARRY’S BAY – Artists opened their studios to the community on the weekend of July 21 and 22 for the annual summer Madawaska Valley Studio Tour. There truly was something for everyone, spanning from acrylic paintings to Inuit carvings. Over at Mike Desrochers’ blacksmith shop on Quadeville Road, three guest artists were set up displaying their wares outside Desrochers’ studio. Karen Istead showcased her diversity as a glass artist, with a variety of work on display. Reina Coulthart had her beautiful paintings of scenery guarded from the sun in a tent. Coulthart has 30 years experience in the fashion industry and now is an acrylic painter. Some of her work includes paintings of iconic buildings around Killaloe and through the back roads. Derek O’Brien was another guest at Madawaska Metal Works, and he creates bowls and centerpieces from dead fall burls. To read the full story, pick up a copy of the July 25, 2018 Gazette.
