BARRY’S BAY – The first meeting of the 2018-2022 council of Madawaska Valley Township took place on the evening of December 4.
There, David Shulist and Mark Willmer, two new members of council, were sworn in alongside incumbents Ernie Peplinski, Carl Bromwich and Mayor Kim Love.
The meeting started with each member of council taking the Oath of Office.
Afterward, CAO/Clerk Sue Klatt spoke on behalf of staff.
“We make our affirmation to this new council that we as staff will foster an enjoyable working environment based on open communication and mutual respect with our new council,” Klatt said. “We will assist the new council to fulfil their new commitment and expectations of municipal services to the ratepayer’s satisfaction while outlining fiscal efficiencies.”
She spoke about staff supporting council, working together to meet the needs and vision of the community.
“We as staff will maintain a high level of professionalism in the manner in which we support you as a council and carry out our duties and your vision,” she said. “We as staff will set policies, develop standards and work with council to bring programming and services that best meet the needs of our community and citizens.”
She concluded by stating that staff will assist council and will build upon the township’s diversity and experiences as they prepare for the future.
Mayor Kim Love delivered her first mayoral address of the term.
She introduced the new council, starting with Carl Bromwich, who has served on council since the summer of 2013.
