Bosco students give township economic development advice

BARRY’S BAY St. John Bosco teacher, Jordan Norris, took nine students Grade 7-8 students to the regular meeting of the Township of Madawaska Valley on November 19.

The visit to council was the culmination of a geography project.

Norris explained to councillors that the class was looking at land use maps of Barry’s Bay. Then to take things a step further the students were asked to suggest realistic improvements to make Barry’s Bay a better place to live.

“The students chose a land use group they wanted to focus on and then they provided solutions,” Norris said.

The class submitted 18 letters to council which were discussed under correspondence at the November 19 meeting.

More than half the letters concerned the waterfront.

To quote one letter: “Barry’s Bay is a small town and a great place to live. But this small town has a big problem.”
