KILLALOE – At a presentation on November 18, glass artist Tanya Lyons celebrated the life and work of the grandfather of Canadian glass artists, Ed Roman.
Lyons was speaking at the Ottawa Valley Creative Arts Open Studio (OVCAOS) annual general meeting held at the Killaloe and District Friendship Club.
Lyons began her presentation by saying she had come full circle to her home community, “to where it all started.”
She talked about seeing glass artists at the Killaloe Craft and Community Fair when she was growing up. Two of those artists were the late Clark Guettel and Ed Roman.
Roman was among the 60 or so people listening to Lyons talk on Sunday.
Lyons said throughout her childhood, she was surrounded by makers.
“People working in glass and ceramics, metal, textiles, there were painters and of course many wood workers…I saw the possibilities and the magic of this lifestyle as well as its hardships.”
Lyons spoke about Roman’s career in glass.
