PALMER RAPIDS – Mayor for the Township of Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan (BLR), Sheldon Keller brought forward a report from the recent County Council meeting.
During that meeting there was a proposal brought forward which was in association with the Associations of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO).
This report was brought forward during the BLR regular council meeting on December 6.
“AMO estimates that municipalities are going to have a shortfall of $4.9 billion for their infrastructure gap in the next 10 years,” said Keller.
He said if this continues they may have to double municipal taxes to keep up with that gap.
“What they are proposing is a one per cent sales tax, which could bring in $2.5 billion annually back into the provincial economy and right back to the local municipal governments,” said Keller.
