MV operations committee talks about completed and on-going roadwork

BARRY’S BAY – During the operations committee meeting on September 12, roadwork in the Township of Madawaska Valley was the main topic of discussion.

The first item was in regards to placing stop signs at the Sunny Hill Road and Curtiss Road intersection. Operations Manager Hilary Kutchkoskie brought a report to the committee, and in it he said that there is increased vehicle and commercial traffic in that area.

He said that to increase visibility at that intersection the township has conducted some minor brushing on one corner, but that this has only had limited success because a section of that corner is privately owned. At the moment, Curtiss Road has a stop sign and Sunny Hill Road is a through road.

Kutchkoskie feels that, in order to rectify this situation, it would be prudent for the township to install two stop signs on Sunny Hill Road so vehicles from both directions would be required to stop.

This would make that section of the roadway a three-way stop.
