Celebrating local volunteers

BARRY’S BAY – Madawaska Valley Township has proclaimed the week of April 23 to 29 as National Volunteer Week.

Mayor Kim Love made the proclamation at the most recent council meeting.

“Madawaska Valley has an astonishing number of dedicated and caring volunteers who put the heart and soul into our community,” she said. “This week is set aside each year to honour and thank volunteers for the time and energy they contribute to causes that benefit our community.”

She added that it is also an opportunity to promote the benefits of volunteering to individuals and to society as a whole.

“Whatever your interests, skills or talents, there is a volunteer opportunity in our community that will welcome and value the contribution you can make,” the mayor said. “I’d like to encourage everyone in our community to find something you’re passionate about. Volunteer and get involved.”

To honour National Volunteer Week, the Gazette sat down with two St. Francis Memorial Hospital volunteers, who give of their time in different capacities.
