Olivia Chow returns to the Valley

BARRY’S BAY – Many people visit the Valley for our extensive forests, some for our pristine lakes, some for our dramatic landscapes, but many come for the whitewater which gives you access to it all.

Olivia Chow visited Madawaska Kanu Centre (MKC) on June 22 to ensure a friend gets a thorough education in whitewater paddling.

Chow is the former New Democratic Party Member of Parliament and former city councillor in Toronto. She ran in the 2014 Toronto mayoral election, where she placed third.

“This is a wonderful place,” Chow said of MKC. “I just keep bringing people, there is so much to learn.”

Chow first came to MKC in the 1980s after she had met a gentleman by the name of Jack Layton, her future husband and future leader of the Canadian New Democrat Party/leader of the Official Opposition.

At the time, Layton had done a lot of lake canoeing, while Chow preferred whitewater. He suggested they go on a whitewater trip together.
