Madawaska Valley fitness centre opens to public

BARRY’S BAY – The new fitness facility in Barry’s Bay is officially open to the public.

A special open house and ceremony was held on the evening of October 2, where dignitaries gathered to celebrate the official opening. The fitness facility is located in what is commonly referred to as the ‘C’ wing of Madawaska Valley District High School.

“The Madawaska Valley fitness centre will provide people of all ages from across our region with affordable access to fitness programming,” Madawaska Valley Mayor Kim Love said. “Opening the fitness centre within Madawaska Valley District High School also marks a significant change in the way we view the relationships between schools and their communities.”

She said it was an important step in making the high school an active, vital community hub.

“Community hubs are part of the provincial government’s vision for making the province the best place to work, live and raise a family,” she said. “A community hub is a public space, like a school or neighbourhood centre.”
