Vandalism at Barry’s Bay outdoor rink

BARRY’S BAY – The Barry’s Bay outdoor arena, located beside the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre, was vandalised sometime between February 16 and 18.

Someone had deliberately caused damage to the shelter and rink boards, and scratched a vulgar message, containing profanity, on the inside wall of the rink as well. The message accused the outdoor rink as being a “joke.”

Paul Nopper is Madawaska Valley Township’s recreation and community development coordinator. He said the approximate damage is around $100, which will be paid for by the taxpayers.

“However, we cannot fix this until the warm weather hits as the paint will freeze, so it will remain visible to the community,” Nopper explained.

The area is not video recorded, so the township does not know who caused the damage. Nopper is hoping someone in the community will report the vandal.
