Police investigating fire on Cybulski Road

BARRY’S BAY – Firefighters from the Madawaska Valley Fire Department were called to a house fire on Cybulski Road outside of Barry’s Bay on the afternoon of September 17.
Black smoke could be seen billowing from the hills, but by the time someone had reported the fire around noon, the single-family dwelling was completely destroyed. A car, which had its driver side door left open, and a truck were both parked beside the house both were completely engulfed in fire when crews arrived.
Fortunately, no other structures were affected and local firefighters managed to get the fire under control, although the home was totalled.
Police were called to investigate the scene, but they did not have any information about the cause of the fire as of press time. The Fire Marshall’s office will likely be called for assistance in the investigation.
The house belongs to Andrew Golka. Police searched for Golka for a short period of time that afternoon. Golka was found and transported to St. Francis Memorial Hospital for an undisclosed reason.
Fire Chief Andrew Peplinskie told the Gazette he cannot answer any questions relating to the fire as of press time.
