First charity poker run a success

BARRY’S BAY – On July 28, those interested in a little poker and fun, and itching to support a good cause, started their mornings off at the Barry’s Bay Dock.

This past Sunday, Kamaniskeg Area property Owners Association (KAPOA), The Valley Gazette and the St. Francis Memorial Hospital (SFMH) Foundation teamed up to host the first SFMH Foundation Charity Annual Poker Run.

Participants began their journeys at the Barry’s Bay Dock and travelled across Kamaniskeg Lake, Blackfish Bay and Negeek Lake.

The objective? Collect seven cards, from seven docks, to make your best five-card poker hand.

The team with the best hand went to Bob Miller. The second highest-hand went to Chris Sheppard and the Gazette’s Michel Lavigne. Third place went to Warren Hurren and his daughter Cathy. Each of the winning teams received coupons from local businesses.

Story continues in the July 31, 2013 issue of The Valley Gazette.
