PEMBROKE – The ninth annual Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce (UOVCC), Business Achievement Awards Gala, 2012, took place at the Germania Hall on February 23.
Various individuals and businesses were being represented at the gala as finalists in numerous categories.
This year’s emcees for the event were Shelley Rollands-Poruks, recipient of the 2011 Citizen of the Year Award, and Jon Pole, president of MyFM Radio.
Pole kept the audience entertained throughout the evening by sometimes coming out wearing a Maple Leafs’ jersey.At intervals during the evening he also announced the score of the game held on Saturday between the Leafs and the Senators.
Prior to dinner being served, the finalists were presented with their Certificates of Recognition and had their photographs taken.
After a delicious dinner prepared and catered by Ullrich’s on Main it was time to hand out the awards.
Young Entrepreneur of the Year was won by Emma Leavey of Pick-It Fence.
In the Small Business of the Year category, sponsored by the City of Pembroke, Glenergy Inc. came away a winner.
Medium Business of the Year Award was won by MyFM 104.9 Pembroke and was sponsored by NRTC Communications.
Marianhill won for Large Business of the Year. This award was sponsored this year by the UOVCC.
Eganville resident Chris Hinsperger, of the Bonnechere Caves, was a finalist for Citizen of the Year 2012, and although he didn’t win first in that category, he is still considered a winner by those who know him. The winner in this category was Bob French for his volunteerism with the Rotary Club and the Renfrew County Unit of the
Canadian Cancer Society, where his leadership was instrumental in starting up the very successful Relay for Life.
