Keeping customers in the know

KILLALOE – A social media workshop was held for local businesses at the township hall in Killaloe on November 15.

Maria Mayville, volunteer and project coordinator, pulled the event together and said that the workshop is important for businesses.
“Social media is important,” she said. “There has to be a balance, and social media moves quickly… This is to help the businesses and everybody.”
The workshop was an opportunity for local business owners, or anyone interested, to sign up, come out, and learn about how to use social media to its full advantage.
Kelly Lemenchick, social media coordinator for the Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation, was the speaker for the workshop, and was there to help with any form of social media, as well as show businesses how to properly use these tools.
“She is informed, and she also realizes she is working with people who aren’t. She is very easy-going,” Mayville said, adding that she herself has been to several of Lemenchick’s workshops, and found her to be wonderful to work with.
She continued to say that social media is a wonderful way to show customers what a business is all about, as well as keeping them up to date and in the know.
“Social media gives the business personality. You are not going to sell anything with social media… What you are actually promoting is your personality, the brand of your business. That is what you are using social media for,” Mayville stated.
Facebook is a fantastic opportunity to give all of the information about your business, the address, store hours, and all of the important things that users need to know.
Business owners can also post photos, and this is a wonderful way to keep customers entertained, while still feeding them information.
