Died peacefully on the morning of Christmas Eve, 2016 with his children by his side at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay. Ike was born the third child to Magdalena (Margaret) and Leo Coulas. Isaiah Angus Joseph Coulas was born January 31, 1933 on the day that St. John De Bosco was canonized (the Italian priest who took care of orphan boys). It was the year the village of Barry’s Bay was incorporated. Ike was named after Father Isaiah of St. Hedwig’s Parish. After graduating from St. Joseph’s high school, he moved to Toronto in 1951 and worked in Toronto for 38 years, mostly in the dairy business. Ike became visually impaired with macular degeneration and returned to “the hills of home,” Barry’s Bay in 1989. With generosity and humour, Ike contributed to the Barry’s Bay community through volunteering for CNIB Community Support, AA, St. Hedwig’s Parish, The Lions, Barry’s Bay Seniors Centre and as a director for Barry’s Bay Home Support. Ike was known as an accomplished bridge, euchre and cribbage player but above all was an avid hockey, football, golf, and especially baseball fan. Survived by son Michael Leo of Venice, FL (wife Candace) and daughter Valerie Anne of Ajax, ON (husband David Gaudet) and Valerie’s children Alexis Gaudet (husband Scott Hartwick, great-grandchildren Isabella 5 years and Evelyn 9 months), Katrina Gaudet (husband Dan Barton, great-grandson Noah 8 years) and Brittany Gaudet. Survived by brothers Leo (wife Marcelle) and Anthony Coulas, and by sisters Teresa Hamilton (husband Tom) and Leona Etmanski, and many nephews and nieces.Predeceased by brother-in-law Edward Etmanski. Ike will be sorely missed by good friend and cousin Robert Yantha (wife Ruth), and good friend Liz Beasley.  To Ike’s family, friends and community, his children would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who helped him before and after as his health declined.  Ike had a deep faith and a caring spirit that will carry him along. He did not complain about his vision impairment or his health concerns. He saw the humorous side. He prayed to St. Jude, patron saint of hopeless cases, St. Anthony, patron saint of lost things and the Holy Mother. A memorial service will be held at St. Hedwig’s Church, Barry’s Bay, Ontario on Saturday June 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served afterwards. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Ike’s name to St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay.

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference.
